Dreadnought South West to launch Rebellious Sounds Archive in Exeter

The Rebellious Sounds Archive is a Heritage Lottery Funded project created and undertaken by Dreadnought South West to create the first community archive collection of oral histories about the activism of women in the South West. In the centenary year of the very first votes by women, we hope that the contemporary archive of stories will illuminate and inspire people to find out about their heritage and possible connections to the women’s suffrage campaign from 100 years ago. This project presents an opportunity to recognise how women’s suffrage has acted as inspiration for contemporary women’s activism.

On Wednesday 14th February, Dreadnought South West will be launching their Rebellious Sounds Archive Listening Booth installation at Exeter Phoenix. The Listening Booth is a touring exhibition space that houses oral histories of women's activism in the South West. The booth will then be installed in the Phoenix Cafe-Bar on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th February. Come and listen to the first stories we've collected, and find out how to add your voice. On Thursday 15th February, Dreadnought Co-Director Natalie McGrath and Dr Jana Funke from the Institute of Sexology (University of Exeter), will host the Rebellious Sounds Archive, whilst sharing  Jana’s research of LGBTQ women from the women’s suffrage campaign at Exeter Phoenix.  Join them between 3:30 - 5:30pm.

For the full list of venues that the Listening Booth will be visiting in the first part of the tour, look here: http://dreadnoughtsouthwest.org.uk/listening-booth-tour/
